It provides practical strategies for creating supportive environments that foster learning, resilience, and healthy development for Middle School students.
Led by Resilient Futures Co-Founders Dr. Megan Brennan, PsyD, Dr. Ellie Cahill, PhD, and Dr. Laura McArthur, PhD, the course explores the core principles of trauma and its profound effects on adolescents' brains, behaviors, and relationships. Participants will learn how to recognize signs of trauma in adolescents and respond with empathy, understanding, and effective trauma-informed practices.
Whether teaching in Middle Schools, working in youth-serving organizations, or mentoring adolescents, participants will gain tools to create environments that promote safety and connection for all students to thrive. The training acknowledges the disproportionate impact of trauma on marginalized communities and the importance of cultural humility in Secondary Education settings.

The short answer: EVERYONE in Middle School Settings
This course is designed for Middle School educators, administrators, school mental healthcare professionals, and all Middle School community members. Whether participating at an individual or institutional level, our Foundational Training for Middle School Settings is an invaluable tool designed to ignite sustainable change, creating trauma-informed communities of care for adolescents.
A COURSE FOR:
Individual education and self-reflection
Onboarding and enrolling new employees
Continuing education within existing communities [Continuing education credits offered in some areas]
Leadership training to drive culture and policy shifts at the organizational level

Estimated Time Commitment: 10 HOURS maximum
The training is a series of learning modules presented in video presentation format varying in length between 25-40 minutes each.
Each Module and subsequent Lessons include activities, reflections, and additional resources to help bolster your knowledge of each topic.
We estimate the maximum 10-hour time commitment based on the completion of all video lessons, accompanying activities & reflections, as well as intro and thank you videos.

Our self-directed course format includes multimedia resources, such as self-paced narrated training modules, informative videos, downloadable activities, and interactive supplemental resources to further your learning - all designed to explore at your own pace. Upon successfully completing the course and submitting our feedback survey, each participant is eligible to download a certificate of course completion.
