Course Summary

Our Trauma-Informed Futures© Foundational Training for Early Childhood Education is designed to help caregivers and educators understand the unique needs of young children affected by trauma. It provides practical strategies for creating supportive, nurturing environments that promote learning and development.

Led by Resilient Futures Co-Founders Dr. Megan Brennan, PsyD, Dr. Ellie Cahill, PhD, and Dr. Laura McArthur, PhD, the course examines the core principles of trauma and its wide-ranging effects on children and adults. Participants gain insights into how trauma influences brain development and behavior and learn to recognize signs of trauma in young children so they can respond with empathy and compassion.

Whether working in a preschool, or early childhood center, or providing in-home care for young children, participants will learn to implement trauma-informed practices that foster safety, connection, and readiness to learn. The training also emphasizes equity-centered approaches, acknowledging the disproportionate impact of trauma on marginalized communities. It highlights the importance of cultural humility and inclusive practices in early childhood learning environments

Early childhood education presents a critical opportunity to address trauma early and prevent its long-term effects. By understanding trauma’s impact and responding with care, we can create environments where every child has the chance to heal, grow, and thrive.
